These creatures have been seen i many of our lakes, in the river systems, in the fjords and along the coast. The oldest written statements stems of course from the old sagas. Here you can read about the Midgard Serpent, the offspring of Loke, and how it got so big and vicious that the gods had to throw it into the sea to get rid of it, and how Thor hooked it while fishing out at sea. The kings who christened Norway, king Sverre and king Olaf, both met many a sea serpent and dealt with them like the demonic creatures they were.

Much later the educated men of the church, in catholic time the foreigners Jakob Ziegler and Olaus Magnus, Archbishop Erik Walkendorf of Trondheim, and in the later protestantic time - Bishop Erik Pontoppidan, the ministers Hans Strøm, Michael Andersen Aalborg in Vang at Mjoesa, the missionary to Greenland Hans Egede, Claus Frimann in Nordfjord, Knut Leem in Finnmark, Peder Claussøn Friis in Audnedal and Petter Dass in Nordland; they all wrote about the sea serpent, and that seamen and fishermen recognized the creatures as being real creatures along with whales and other beings of the sea.
Since the chronicles describing the 1522 serpent of lake Mjoesa, there exist some court protocols referring to meetings with these strange creatures. We know of scores of documented sightings from the fjords as well as from the lakes in several river systems all along the coast. These are both of anecdotal character and are documented sightings.
Some are from lakes quite a distance away from the river estuaries. They have been seen in surprisingly small lakes. It may look like the creature is well able to travel the rivers to make it to distant smaller or bigger lakes, may be seeking suitable spawning grounds or searching for a habitat rich in food. They are shy creatures very rarely seen by people.

Now you probably are ready for the many amazing sea serpent stories from my country. Enjoy.

These are the only two Norwegian books about Sea serpents,
 neither ever translated to English.

We use the modern metric system
:
From meter to foot.....muliply the number in meter by three.
From meter to yard....0.91 m = 1 yard
From kg to pound......1 kg = 2 pounds

For the record: I operate freely
but do cooperate with other Sea Serpent hunters.
